In one of the more unlikely action rivalries, Jason Statham will face off against James Franco in the upcoming Homefront. The film’s trailer released today and, as one would expect from a Statham movie, there is an abundance of action.
The script is written by none other than Statham’s Expendables co-star Sylvester Stallone, who adapted it from Chuck Logan’s novel of the same name. Statham is former DEA agent Phil Broker who, in order to escape a troubled past, moves to a small Southern town along with his young daughter. He soon finds out that the town is run by Gator Bodin (Franco), the local meth kingpin. Things get even more vicious when Broker’s daughter is kidnapped. As you can imagine, Broker sets out to cleanse the town Walking Tall style.
While Statham is obviously in his element here, Franco also seems to have adapted surprisingly well to his tough-guy role by the looks of the trailer. Franco’s films are all over the map in terms of subject matter and quality (Deuces Wild, This is the End, 127 Hours), and while the genre of Homefront is clear, only time will tell if it is a fresh new role for the actor or another forgettable bust.
Homefront is directed by Gary Fleder (Runaway Jury), and features Winona Ryder (The Iceman) and Kate Bosworth (Straw Dogs) in supporting roles.
Audiences can watch Statham and Franco duke it out in the film on November 27th.
