The return of the Salem witches is back in the upcoming film, Hocus Pocus 3! Sean Bailey, the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, announced the new movie in an interview with The New York Times. It’s no shock that there is a threequel in the works for the classic, family-friendly horror film.
The original film didn’t do remarkably well at the box office, but once it hit cable, Hocus Pocus became a Disney Classic, which prompted the company to create a sequel Hocus Pocus 2, which made No. 5 on the most streamed movies of 2022. The new film, Hocus Pocus 3, will follow director Kenny Ortega’s 1993 original and the 2022 sequel directed by Anne Fletcher, Hocus Pocus 2, which included a cast of Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as the trio of the Salem witches that suck the life out of children to stay young.
In an interview with EW, Midler, Parker, and Najimy shared their thoughts on continuing the franchise. Midler shared:
“The fact that we got to do this finally, after 30 years of promoting the idea, I’m glad we got to do it. I’d love to have a franchise — especially a character I love playing.” She continues, “If there was a third one, of course I’d sign on, but I don’t know how. I can’t imagine what the story would be, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary, and our relationship. It’s good for women. We stick together through hell and high water, but we do cause mayhem, and not many women cause that much mayhem!”
