The trailer for the sequel to the 2001 movie Joe Dirt, titled Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser, has arrived a few months ahead of the film’s release. Featuring David Spade returning as the titular character, this movie will feature the antihero being transported to the recent past and then attempting to return to his family and friends.
David Spade also wrote the film, and will be joined by returning cast mates as well as newcomers ranging from Christopher Walken (Seven Psychopaths), Patrick Warburton (Ted), Mark McGrath (formerly the lead singer for Sugar Ray), Brittany Daniel (Skyline), Mariana Paola Vicente (Hot Tub Time Machine 2), and Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers). In the years following its initial release in 2001, the original Joe Dirt has become a cult classic, even though it originally received generally negative reviews.
The new movie was directed by Fred Wolf (The House Bunny) and produced through Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. Following in the footsteps of other original movies released exclusively through online streaming sites like Netflix, Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser will be released only through Crackle, an online streaming company backed by Sony. Before the sequel came together, David Spade had previously attempted to put together an animated Joe Dirt television series for TBS that never got off the ground.
Joe Dirt 2: Beautiful Loser is set for release on July 16.
