‘Here’ Stagnates, ‘Venom: The Last Dance’ Goes No. 1

In its second weekend in theaters, the third and final entry in the Venom series, The Last Dance, has earned a total of $90M domestically, per The Hollywood Reporter.

This comes alongside a 49% decline in ticket sales, amounting to $26.1M on the weekend. Despite this deficit, it topped the box office list as the number-one film of the weekend. Additionally, the film continues to perform well overseas, grossing $68.4M in the international market this weekend for a total of $227M in foreign markets. This puts The Last Dance slightly ahead of Let There Be Carnage in their respective box office timelines, with Venom 3 totaling a current $317M worldwide.

In a quiet first week of release, Miramax and Sony’s Here, a Robert Zemeckis-directed drama, earned just $5M against a reported $45M in financing pre-marketing. This comes as a surprise due to the high-profile cast of Tom Hanks and Robin Wright reuniting with Zemeckis, a lineup that recalls the legendary production of Forrest Gump.

In second place on the box office list, DreamWorks and Universal’s The Wild Robot continues its strong theatrical run. It earned $7.6M this weekend for a total domestic gross of $121M six weeks out from its release. The Wild Robot has now earned $269M globally.

At third, Temple Hill and Paramount’s Smile 2 earned $6.8M for a total domestic gross of $53M. In its third week of release, it declined 29% in theaters. However, Smile 2 has performed uncharacteristically well for a horror film overseas, where it has grossed an additional $57.1M.

A number of films on the awards circuit, including Clint Eastwood’s Juror 2, Neon’s Sean Baker-directed Anora, and Searchlight’s Jesse Eisenberg-directed A Real Pain, have entered their limited theatrical runs to great critical reception.

Due to the upcoming Nov. 5 election, many studios are restricting their releases until voting transpires.
