Henry Cavill has been cast as iconic sleuth detective Sherlock Holmes in a new film starring Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown as up and coming detective Enola Holmes.
Cavill is no stranger to playing roles famous for their place in popular culture’s history. He is perhaps best known for his role as DC Extended Universe’s Superman, beginning in 2013 with Man of Steel and then Justice League in 2017. More recently, he starred opposite Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible: Fallout in 2018.
Enola Holmes is based on Nancy Springer’s six-book series “The Enola Holmes Mysteries” that follows Sherlock and Mycroft Holmes’ little sister, Enola, as she tries her hand at solving mysteries, much like her brothers are famous for.
Millie Bobby Brown became attached after she worked with the film’s production company, Legendary, on her film Godzilla: King of the Monsters which released this past month. Brown will star as well as produce through PMCA Productions.
Helena Bonham Carter is also on the cast list as Enola’s mother.
Killing Eve and Fleabag director Harry Bradbeer will direct, and screenwriter Jack Thorne will adapt the script.
Production for the film is expected to start this summer and the film will most likely be released in 2020.
