‘Hell Of A Summer’ Trailer Reveals First Look At Finn Wolfhard’s Gory Summer Camp Slasher

The classic summer camp slasher story that horror movie buffs know all too well returns, this time with an amusing revamp as Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk’s horror-comedy Hell of a Summer hits theaters this spring.

Neon released the first trailer for Hell of a Summer on Wednesday, which follows a 24-year-old camp counselor, “who arrives at Camp Pineway thinking his biggest problem is that he feels out of touch with his teenage co-workers,” the trailer’s description reads. “What he doesn’t know is that a masked killer is lurking on the campgrounds, brutally picking counselors off one by one.”

This is Wolfhard’s (Stranger Things) first directional project along with Bryk (When You Finish Saving the World). The two also co-wrote and appear in the film together alongside a cast featuring Fred Hechinger (Gladiator II), Pardis Saremi (Death and Other Details), Abby Quinn (Knock at the Cabin), and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs).

Hell of a Summer has been in the works for some time now, as Wolfhard and Bryk shot it back in the summer of 2022. According to Entertainment Weekly (EW), the film then had its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival.

“It’s a slasher movie where people start dying and everyone blames it on him,” Wolfhard told EW in a 2023 interview shortly after wrapping up shooting, “and it’s about the ensemble of teenagers trying to survive the night.”

Having started the production for this film at the age of 20, Wolfhard told EW, “Every day on set we’d just start laughing. ‘Oh my God, they gave money to two kids to make a crazy [movie].’” Now 22, Wolfhard said he tries not to downplay the work he put into it. “I’m incredibly proud of it, but it was a crazy thing,” he added.

The seat-gripping suspense of watching a masked serial killer raise hell returns when Hell of a Summer comes to theaters on April 18.
