Mere weeks after its debut, a new hit video game is already getting a film adaptation, Collider reports.
Released on March 6th, Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction is a split-screen co-op that follows two aspiring authors, one of sci-fi and the other of fantasy, as they are invited by a tech company to take part in an experiment that will allow them to enter the world of their stories. But when an accident fuses their worlds, the pair must team up to escape, only to discover the company’s intentions might be more sinister than they thought.
Written by director and Hazelight studio chief Josef Fares and Sebastian Johansson, the game is a hit with audiences and critics, having sold over two million copies in its first week.
Now, per Variety, the production company Story Kitchen (formerly dj2 Entertainment), who is also developing an adaptation of Hazelight Studios’ previous game, It Takes Two, is putting together package for interested parties. A bidding war for the property’s rights has already broken out among several of Hollywood’s top studios, with It Takes Two already finding a home at Amazon in 2022.
Some of Story Kitchen’s previous projects include the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog trilogy and Netflix’s 2024 animated Tomb Raider series.
Further details about a possible director, screenwriter, and cast for the Split Fiction adaptation have yet to be announced.
