If you haven’t heard, the writer, director, actor, voice-actor, and creator of the animated series Family Guy, American Dad, and the now-cancelled Cleveland Show, is making a western-comedy called A Million Ways to Die in the West. It’s Seth MacFarlane, of course, who is starring in the film as well as directing it. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Family Guy writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild – who he also collaborated with on the screenplay for the 2012 comedy Ted (which McFarlane also directed and acted in).
This new image from A Million Ways to Die in the West shows off the film’s Old West setting and four members of its cast: Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother, the Harold and Kumar series), Amanda Seyfried (Les Miserables, Lovelace), Charlize Theron (Young Adult, Prometheus) and MacFarlane himself.
In the film, a coward (MacFarlane) loses his girlfriend (Seyfried), and must learn how to be brave. But his newfound courage is soon put to the test when a violent outlaw comes to town. Other cast members include Giovanni Ribisi (who appeared in Ted, and stars in the Sulkin and Wild created TV show, Dads), Liam Neeson, Sarah Silverman, and Ralph Garman.
Ted was a pretty darn successful- over $540 million at the box office – first foray into live action films (if you don’t count the fact that the title character was a CGI created teddy bear) for MacFarlane. If A Million Ways to Die in the West even comes close to replicating Ted‘s success, the Family Guy creator could go on to have a very fruitful career as a director.
