Harrison Ford, legendary actor known for the likes of Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Blade Runner, accepted a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Actor Awards. The award was presented by Woody Harrelson, who despite not working with Ford, stated that they had become good friends.
“I hadn’t met Harrison before I saw him go into a sushi restaurant on San Vicente. I followed him in, he invited me to lunch and we had an incredible conversation… You have more talent in your little finger than I have in my little finger. Of all the actors in the world, you’re one of them. Everyone in this industry knows you.”
Ford’s award was accompanied by a highlight reel of the greatest hits of his career. Upon accepting the award, Ford was quite emotional, but he managed to throw a few jokes in his acceptance speech anyway.
“I feel incredibly grateful for this kind attention. But to be clear, I also am quite humbled. That said, it is a little weird to be receiving a lifetime achievement award at the half point of my career. It’s a little weird isn’t it? I’m still a working actor!”
He also acknowledged how lucky he was at the start of his career, giving thanks to two artists who he credits with kickstarting his career. He said, “I was not an overnight success,” before personally shouting out two directors who gave him his biggest breaks. “Thank you, George Lucas. Thank you, Steven Spielberg. This is a tough business to get into. In my case, it’s a tough business to get out of, thank God, because I love what I do.”
On top of the major franchises he headlined, Ford’s career consists of many other impactful performances, including: The Fugitive, Apocalypse Now, The Conversation and Shrinking. He made sure to emphasize how grateful he was to receive this award and how much he has enjoyed his time the industry as a member of SAG-AFTRA.
“The stories we tell have a unique capacity to create moments with emotional connection. They bring us together. So while we’re all at different stages of our lives and careers in this room, we all share something fundamental: We share the privilege of working in the world of ideas, of empathy, of imagination.”
Harrison Ford is the 61st recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by SAG-AFTRA.
