No time to… compose an entire film? It’s just been announced that Hans Zimmer will be the composer of the upcoming James Bond film No Time To Die just three months ahead of its release, taking over the role from Dan Romer. Romer left the project following “creative differences” with director Cary Joji Fukunaga, according to a report from Variety. The two began collaboration for the film last summer, having previously worked together on prior films like Beasts of No Nation and Maniac. Zimmer is now set to compose the film’s score under a tight deadline, considering its April release date.
Zimmer, an 11-time Oscar nominee whose past work includes Gladiator, Interstellar, and Inception, will likely recruit help in the scoring process, which is estimated to need completion by mid-February. The past two Bond films, Spectre and Skyfall, featured scoring from Thomas Newman, who recorded two hours of original music for each. The latter ended up earning the film an Oscar nomination.
Bond films have additionally found success at the Oscars for their original title songs, performed by Adele and Sam Smith in Skyfall and Spectre, respectively. There has been no announcement made as to who, if anyone, will sing the title song for No Time To Die.
James Bond: No Time To Die is set for release on April 8, 2020.
