The star of the upcoming Halloween film, Jamie Lee Curtis, was not kidding when she accused the new sequel of being ‘intense and just… brutal’. Between the featurette that gives fans an inside look into this terrifying world and the newest trailer, this new installment embodies pure evil.
The featurette (below) confirms the sheer malevolence that drives Michael Myers. Curtis identifies Michael as a villain that is motivated only by evil and bent on getting revenge on the-one-that-got-away. The director and creator of the beloved 1978 original, John Carpenter, explains that while this new installment is nostalgic with familiar faces, it is “As good as I’ve seen since we did the first movie.” Although David Gordon Green is the director at the helm of the 2018 Halloween, Carpenter was heavily involved as executive producer, composer, and creative consultant to this new sequel.
Although there have been many follow-ups and reboots to the Halloween franchise since 1978, this latest thrill ride is playing a new game. Halloween holds regard with only the original and forgets all others in the franchise as if they never happened. The narrative picks up forty years after the initial film. After his night of reigning terror in 1978, Michael Myers was captured by police and re-incarcerated at a high security asylum. After escaping once more in 2018, the lone survivor of that terrifying night so many years ago, Laurie Strode, anxiously awaits the visitor from hell that she has been expecting since the last she saw him. Now, locked and loaded, Laurie is ready when Michael comes looking for her and her family.
The most recent trailer exhibits that the entire town of Haddonfield is doomed with the ruthless slasher on the loose. Killing indiscriminately, fans finally see the knife wielding slasher more as an unyielding carnage machine rather than a man killing with a purpose. According to ComicBook.com, Green revealed in an interview that, “He has no character. He has no personality. He has no interests. He never has. He’s someone that is moving forward and reacting to the world around him, but not with any sort of conscious objective. And how the world around him reacts to his behavior is where our story comes to life.” After forty years of waiting patiently, Michael Myers is able to unleash his undying evil unto the world with interest.
