Halle Berry brings paranoia in her latest horror-thriller Never Let Go. Produced by Lionsgate, the film follows a mother, Berry’s character, and her two sons living in the wilderness after an apocalypse. To get food and supplies, the three need to tie themselves to ropes attached to their house and never let go, otherwise monsters in the area will be able to take them.
A trailer released on Thursday shows how the family survives and how they need to trust one another. But when one of the sons starts to question if the monsters are real and if the end of the world truly happened, the family’s battle for survival turns into chaos.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film was directed by French director Alexandre Aja, who has worked on horror films such as The Hills Have Eyes, Crawl, and Piranha 3D. Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby (V-Wars) wrote the film’s script.
This isn’t the first time Berry has taken part in horror-thriller films, as she has acted in Gothika, The Call, and Darktide. THR also said when speaking about her experience filming Never Let Go during her appearance at CinemaCon, Berry said that she took on the role because she is an adrenaline junkie and the challenges she would have bringing her character to life.
“There was no electricity, no lights, my character skinning squirrels, and they’re eating bugs and frogs — raw frogs — in the woods,” Berry said. “I had to really skin a squirrel. These things wildly challenged me to create some reality within this world that felt so foreign.”
A core cast for the film has also been revealed. Berry’s two sons will be played by Anthony B. Jenkins (Chicago Med and Roswell, New Mexico) and Percy Daggs (Undone and The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey). Also starring in the film are Matthew Kevin Anderson (Skymed), Christin Park (Charmed), and Stephanie Lavigne (Turner & Hooch).
Never Let Go will grab audiences in theaters on September 27.
