Indie writer and director Hal Hartley is on the move with his next project, as the director reportedly raised approximately $92,000 this morning for his upcoming thriller Where To Land via Kickstarter, according to Deadline.
After steadily budgeting five films, Hartley needed some outside help with funding Where To Land as the director surpassed a $300,000 minimum cap with only one day left. Hartley had until January 4th to meet the studio requirements, otherwise the film would have been scrapped. The director added Edie Falco to an already beefy cast consisting of Tatiana Abracos, Robert Burke, Bill Sage, Jade Golden, Aida Johannes, Elina Löwensohn, DJ Mendel, Parker Posey and Jay Thomas.
In recent years Hartley opted to move away from traditional independent film funding and instead towards Kickstarter, where his fans from across the world would be able to finance the film. Hartley has openly expressed his disgust for film festivals and pre-sales, as he felt they weren’t effective entering the late 2010s and found more success in other countries.
This will be Hartley fifth time funding a film through Kickstarter. The director has expressed his gratitude towards the process, attributing it to more quality products that the audiences can enjoy thoroughly. Where To Land does not yet have a release date.
