Marvel’s upcoming Captain America: Civil War is packed to the gills with MCU characters, so much so it couldn’t possibly fit any more of its repertory players into the mix, right? Not quite, as it was recently confirmed that Oscar winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow (Shakespeare in Love) will be on hand as well, reprising her role as Pepper Potts, the main squeeze of Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark.
Paltrow’s overall involvement in Captain America: Civil War isn’t really known and her appearance will likely consist of little more than a cameo at best but the actress was recently on hand during recent re-shoots for the film. Civil War is one of the biggest, starriest and perhaps most dramatic yet for the Marvel crew as the film centers on a contentious superhero decision that prompts two firm sides for our Avengers crew. Paltrow has appeared as Pepper in all three standalone Iron Man films (starting with 2008 debut that helped mold the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the behemoth it is now). She also briefly appeared in The Avengers (2012) but didn’t tag along for the most recent entry: Avengers: Age of Ultron – her contract with Marvel allegedly expired following Iron Man 3.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony and Joe Russo return for the latest chapter as does nearly the entire Avengers team: Chris Evan (Captain America), Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Paul Bettany (Vision), Don Cheadle (War Machine) and Anthony Mackie (Falcon). Civil War will also see the debuts of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther.
Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters on May 6, 2016.
