Sherlock Holmes director Guy Ritchie has been hired by Disney and AGBO to direct the upcoming Hercules live action picture. This, however, is not the first time Ritchie has been picked up by Disney. Ritchie successfully directed the live action Aladdin film in 2019, which garnered a billion dollars in revenue.
AGBO, which will be producing the movie, is the production company owned by the Russo brothers which are the minds responsible for films like Avengers: Endgame. The Hercules script is currently in the process of hiring writers after Dave Callaham, penned the first draft. Callaham and Ritchie have worked together before. Their joint projects include Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver and Wrath of Man.
Callaham has a had an incredibly successful writing career on his own as well. He’s written and co-written on projects like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wonder Woman 1984, Godzilla, and Mortal Kombat. Having one of the writers of these big blockbusters on board can only mean good things for the success of Hercules.
Ritchie’s most recent projects include a picture he did with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The movie was an untitled action picture that was sold to STX and Amazon.
