Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie weighed in on the possibility of a sequel to their box-office hit Barbie.
Gerwig wrote and directed the movie with Robbie producing and starring in the titular role of the beloved doll.
When asked at the Gotham Awards on Monday whether a sequel was a possibility Gerwig replied, “I mean, at the moment we are at zero.” However, Gerwig did not completely rule out the possibility adding, “Life is long. You never know.”
Robbie told the Associated Press earlier this month when asked about the future of the movie and the possibility of a sequel, “We didn’t build it to be a trilogy or something. Greta put everything into this movie, so I can’t imagine what would be next.”
The Barbie movie swept box-office raking in $1.03 billion at the global box office making Gerwig the first solo female director to reach 1 billion in revenue for her movie.
Robbie starred alongside Ryan Reynolds, who played Ken. The star-studded cast also included Issa Rae, America Ferrera, Will Ferell, Rhea Perlman, and many other big names in Hollywood.
There has been talk of Oscar nominations and even possible wins for Barbie following its massive success, already, the soundtrack for the movie, Barbie: The Album earned 11 Grammy nominations on November 10th.
