Greg Mottola hasn’t made a film in almost four years, since the excellent scifi comedy Paul. That’s not to say he’s been idle. He’s directed several episodes of The Newsroom and helmed the TV Movie Clear History he made with Larry David for HBO. But, according to The Hollywood Reporter, it looks like Mottola is finally getting ready to return to the big screen with Keeping Up With the Joneses.
The film revolves around a straight-laced suburban couple who discover their next door neighbors are spies. Zach Galifianakis and Jon Hamm are in talks to star, although there’s no word on what roles they will be playing. It will be produced by Walter Parkes (Flight) and Laurie MacDonald (Gladiator) and scripted by Michael LeSieur (You, Me, and Dupree, The Maiden Heist).
Keeping Up With the Joneses is still in the early stages of pre-production, but it’s already attracting some compelling talent in front of and behind the camera. The film will be produced and distributed by Fox. There’s no word on release date, but there’s a good bet it’s headed for a 2015 release.
