The first trailer for Greenland 2: Migration has been released, offering a look into the aftermath of the 2020 disaster thriller Greenland. The film is directed by Ric Roman Waugh, with Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin returning as John and Allison Garrity, a couple once more facing survival challenges in a devastated world. Roman Griffin Davis, best known for Jojo Rabbit, takes over the role of their son Nathan, now twelve years old .
Set five years after fragments of the comet “Clarke” nearly destroyed Earth, the sequel shows the Garrity’s leaving the Greenland bunker, which is “no longer a viable option for long-term survival”. Instead, they journey toward France, where “a massive comet crater” could provide a natural safe haven and the chance to rebuild life. The trailer highlights their dangerous trek across a devastated Europe, with Butler’s character stating, “Every day we fight to stay alive” as images flash of radiation storms, tsunami waves, and relentless meteor showers .
Baccarin called the production “one of the most physically and emotionally harsh experiences” of her career, noting the difficulty of filming in London and Iceland. Butler, also serving as producer, emphasized the emotional core of the sequel: “This is a movie about family, about resilience, and about never giving up even when the world is gone”.
The original Greenland became a sleeper hit during the pandemic, grossing more than $50 million worldwide despite minimal promotion, and earning praise for combining disaster spectacle with human depth. Producers note that the sequel seeks to “expand the story and the scale,” and have hinted that if audiences respond well, a third installment is possible.
Greenland 2: Migration is set to hit U.S. theaters on January 9, 2026.
