Green Day Inspired Film Receives New Title And Distribution

Nimrods Teaser From Green Day

Via The Hollywood Reporter, the previously known Green Day inspired film New Years Rev has changed its title to Nimrods. The film will be directed by Lee Kirk (The Giant Mechanical Man, Ordinary World). The stars include Mason Thames (Regretting You, How to Train Your Dragon), McKenna Grace (Young Sheldon, Gifted), Angela Kinsey (The Office, Tall Girl), Bobby Lee (And Just Like That, Reservation Dogs), Fred Armisen (Wednesday, Easy A), Jenna Fischer (The Office, Mean Girls) and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls, Guardians of the Galaxy).

The film focuses on three high school friends with the assumption their band will open for Green Day on New Years Eve as they venture on their road trip. The story is based on Green Day’s experience living in a band before their album Dookie took off as the album released in 1994 received a Grammy award for Major Label Debut album and is certified in being a double-diamond. Kirk orchestrated Nimrods with his own script alongside the band, which references Green Day’s 1997 album in its title.

Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong (This is 40, The Simpsons Movie), Tre Cool (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Sex Tape) and Mike Dirnt (Varsity Blues, Mark, Mary & Some Other People) will be producers with Process’ Tim Perell (The Myth of Fingerprints, The Rebound). The executive producers are Jonathan Daniel (Music, Spell), Michael Rapino (Hurry Up Tomorrow, A Star is Born) and Ryan Kroft (Moonage Daydream, Billy Idol Should Be Dead) for Live Nation Studios. Ignacio Diaz-Silverio (Primo, A Good Person), Keen Ruffalo (Thor: Ragnarok, Begin Again), Kylr Coffman (Outbreak, Fragile Heaven) and Ryan Foust (The Goldfinch, Marry Me) conclude casting.
