During a recent Q&A session for a panel at Fan Expo Denver, Grant Gustin was asked by a fan, “If James Gunn cast you in his DCU, who would you want to play?” Gustin, who was at the panel alongside other cast members of The Flash TV series, was quick to answer, “Flash.” answered Gustin.
A clip of Gustin’s answer was uploaded by a fan on X, with the caption “If James Gunn cast you in his DCU, who would you want to play?’ GRANT IMMEDIATELY ANSWERING WITH ‘FLASH’. The agenda is still going strong, people.” This end of the caption is in reference to an ongoing online campaign to have Gustin reprise his role as The Flash in James Gunn’s DC Universe.
While the first chapter of James Gunn’s DC Universe, Chapter One — Gods and Monsters, has plans for many DC characters, from Superman and the Green Lantern Corps. to Clayface, Gunn’s plans for The Flash are currently unknown.
All that is known about Gunn’s plans for the character stems from a Threads post by Gunn in December of 2024. The post in question was Gunn’s reply to a fan who asked why DC Studios was going ahead with a Clayface movie. “Because of the number one rule here at DC: No movie will be greenlit before the script is ready. And Flanagan’s [Mike Flanagan, Clayface’s screenwriter] script was ready. (And as for the Flash, we’re holding a beat on development),”Gunn said in the post.
The first entry in James Gunn’s DC Universe, Superman, written and directed by Gunn, will be released on July 11th.
