All right, all right, all right–not to be confused with the 2008 romantic comedy Fool’s Gold, starring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, the brand new trailer for Stephen Gaghan’s Gold has been released.
Loosely based on the Bre-X mining scandal, Gold debuts a different side to McConaughey we have rarely seen. Instead of the shirtless hunk bravado that McConaughey frequently displayed in his days of yore, in Gold, McConaughey stars as Kenny Wells, a balding, gold-crazed failed prospector who teams up with a geologist portrayed by Edgar Ramirez in search of gold deep within the Indonesian jungle. When everything seems to be looking up for the unlikely pair, the FBI and Indonesian Military take notice of their endeavors, which creates a massive problem for their camp. The film also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood, and Stacy Keach.
Gaghan, whose previous work include the Oscar-winning Syriana and Steven Soderbergh’s Traffic (for which he grabbed a screenwriting Oscar), teamed up with the film’s writers Patrick Massett and John Zinman to produce along with McConaughey, Teddy Schwarzman, and Michael Nozik.
Enjoy the trailer below, Gold opens Christmas Day in the United States.
