Godzilla v Kong, the highly anticipated monster crossover in Legendary Entertainment’s Monsterverse, has just seen its release date pushed back again.
This comes after Warner Brothers moved a number of their titles back as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Originally slated to release November 2o, the monster epic will now be bustling into theaters May 21, 2021.
Warner Brothers has been working hard for a number of years to bring their two largest monster properties together, rebooting the legendary Japanese lizard in 2014’s Godzilla and it’s 2019 sequel Godzilla:King of the Monsters, along with rebooting King Kong with 2017’s Kong: Skull Island. Interestingly, this is not the first time a ‘MonsterVerse’ film has received a May release date. Godzilla: King of the Monsters released May 31 last year, and Godzilla 2014 released May 16.
Warner Brothers is clearly trying to protect their most valuable assets, despite King of the Monsters underperforming at the box office, Godzilla v Kong is expected to premiere with much more fan fare as it is a crossover film with iconic characters that haven’t battled on screen since the 1960’s. A trailer for this film still has not been released, and it is unclear when it will drop given Godzilla v Kong’s new release date.
