News broke this week that Chloé Zhao will be doing a space-western reboot of Dracula, days later a trailer for musician and filmmaker Glenn Danzig vampire-western Death Rider in the House of Vampires has been released. The Wrap has an exclusive look at the trailer here.
The film follows Death Rider(Devon Sawa) riding through a strange erotic vampire world. He fights and meets a plethora of vampires throughout the trailer including, Kim Director, Eli Roth, and Danny Trejo. Death Rider, similar to Danzig’s other work and particularly his other film, Verotika, it seems Danzig is focused on gore, lust, and a genuine camp.
A campy feeling that aligns with old spaghetti westerns. There are even crazy titles introducing every actor and their subsequent character. The feeling of the trailer is unshakable its own, and with Vampires slowly making there way back into popular culture, with the latest Dracula reboot and What We Do In The Shadows being utterly fantastic on FX, there might be a market for this film.
Danzig’s movies seems to be heavily inspired by From Dusk Till Dawn and even Tarantino’s films, even getting a couple of actor’s that have starred in both of those films in Danny Trejo and Eli Roth. Overall, there is a distinct vision that Danzig has for his film, but it is not one that will mesh with everyone or even general critics. It’s strange, bloody, and exactly what Danzig was going for.
Danzig wrote, directs, and stars in the film. As of now there is no set release date, but the trailer is available over at The Wrap.
