Glen Powell is currently in talks to star in a mystery sci-fi project being written and directed by Sam Esmail, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Named Tesseract, the project will be produced through Amazon MGM and United Artists. Plot details have yet to be revealed.

The film will be the newest entry onto Powell’s growing list of projects as he is currently filming the second season of his sports comedy series, Chad Powers, for Hulu, and will follow that up with currently untitled Judd Apatow comedy at Universal in the spring before starting on Tesseract. He has most recently starred in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the Stephen King novel, The Running Man, and will next be seen in A24’s How to Make a Killing with Margaret Qualley and JJ Abrams’ The Great Beyond in 2026.

Esmail, best known for creating the techno-thriller USA series Mr. Robot, starring Rami Malek, most recently wrote and directed an adaptation of the novel Leave The World Behind, starring Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Mahershala Ali, and Kevin Bacon. He is currently in post-production on a thriller for Warner Bros., Panic Carefully, which also stars Roberts, as well as Elizabeth Olsen, Eddie Redmayne, and Joe Alwyn.

Producers for Tesseract include Powell and his creative partner Dan Cohen through their production company Barnstorm, Esmail and Chad Hamilton through their label, Esmail Corp., and United Artists’ Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt.

While not yet greenlit, the production is already looking to start production this summer in London and Hungary.
