Gladiator 2 was the main attraction for Paramount’s presentation in Barcelona, featuring never-before-seen footage of co-stars Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal from an extended version of the original film and an unreleased trailer. According to Variety, US audiences got a similar experience at CinemaCon, getting the first look at the sequel.
The original film’s director, Ridley Scott, said the wait in between films would be well worth it in a video introduction. Alongside this assurance, Mark Viane, Paramount’s president of international theatrical distribution, said it featured some of the “biggest action sequences ever put on film.”
Alongside the Gladiator 2 announcements, Paramount also showcased the first five minutes of Smile 2 (A sequel to the horror film Smile released in 2022), two extended scenes from the upcoming animated Transformers One, teased a Paw Patrol 3, and offered exclusive previews of Sonic 3 according to Variety.
Gladiator 2 remained the focus of the event, inspiring a comedy video poking fun at the original and the cast who worked it as well as sporting a cardboard coliseum complete with Roman legionnaires in the main auditorium.
The film is set to be released on Nov. 15, 2024, and will also star Denzel Washington, Connie Nielson, and Joseph Quinn according to Variety.
