GKIDS Recieves Distribution Rights For Studio Ghibli In Ireland And UK Territories

GKids has officially received distribution rights to Studio Ghibli’s filmography, comprising 23 films, in Ireland and the UK. These distribution rights include all theatrical, home video, TV, and digital/streaming rights in these territories. Ghibli’s catalog includes some of the most critically acclaimed animated films of all time, including My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and the Academy Award-winning films Spirited Away and The Boy and the Heron. These releases are notable as many of these titles have been hard to find or entirely unavailable in these territories until now.

GKids will begin their theatrical rollout of Ghibli’s films with an IMAX re-release of Kiki’s Delivery Service on August 21st. This will then be followed by future re-releases of The Secret World of Arietty (also known as just Arietty in Ireland and the UK territories) and Whisper of the Heart. These remasters will all be shown in IMAX theaters, newly remastered in 4K. More IMAX 4K re-releases of other Studio Ghibli films are also planned for these territories in the future.

These re-releases are being done by GKids in collaboration with Anime Limited. This Glasgow-based distributor has previously worked with GKids to release titles such as Arcane, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Perfect Blue in Ireland and the UK. In addition to these Ghlibi releases, the two distributors are also working together on the upcoming release of Godzilla: Minus Zero in these territories.

In addition to the theatrical re-releases, a re-release of Ghlbli’s full library is planned on multiple home video platforms in the future.
