Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez is set to star in a new Paramount comedy titled The Aliens Are Stealing Our Weed, which is set to hit theaters sometime next year.
The film’s script was written by Ryan Firpo, best known for his work on the upcoming Phase 4 Marvel movie, The Eternals. Additionally, both Firpo and Rodriguez are set to produce the film with Molly Breeskin as executive producer. Breeskin and Rodriguez will be working under Rodgirguez’s I Can and I Will productions, while Firpo is producing under his own Badlands.
The film chronicles the adventures of Candice (Rodriguez) and Izzy, two struggling pot growers. When the girls’ entire crop of weed goes missing, the two find themselves roped into a larger conspiracy unveiling the alien’s plan to steal the planet’s marijuana supply.
Rodriguez rose to fame through her role as Jane on CW’s Jane the Virgin, for which she won a Golden Globe. Since the show ended in 2019, Rodriguez has become more involved with feature films, including Miss Bala, Annihilation and Someone Great. This project provides another chance to show off her comedy skills post-Jane the Virgin but, as of now, there has been no word on who will direct the project or star alongside Rodriguez.
