Golden Globe winner Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin, Players) is set to make her theatrical feature directorial debut with House of Guerrero, an original boxing drama co-financed and produced by Justin Baldoni’s Wayfarer Studios. 

Written by Bernardo Cubría (Acapulco) from an original story developed alongside Rodriguez, the narrative follows a promising young prizefighter whose career is prematurely derailed, forcing him to fight for one final opportunity to step back into the ring and reclaim his life. The project reunites Rodriguez and Baldoni, who starred opposite each other for five seasons on The CW’s hit comedy-drama Jane the Virgin. An earlier iteration of the concept was initially announced in 2021 under the title Guerrero as a planned collaboration with professional boxer Ryan Garcia.

Fight choreography for the feature will be designed and overseen by stunt coordinators Clayton J. Barber (Creed III, Black Panther) and Eric Brown (John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum).

Producers on the film include Scott Budnick and Ameet Shukla (Nonnas) for 1Community, Rodriguez and Molly Breeskin through I Can And I Will Productions, and Baldoni alongside Andrew Calof for Wayfarer Studios. Wayfarer Studios, 1Community, HarbourView Media Group, and Clare LoCicero are co-financing the feature, supported by tax-credit financing from Three Point Capital.

Executive producers include Steve Sarowitz and Jamey Heath for Wayfarer Studios, Sherrese Clarke and Niija Kuykendall for HarbourView Media Group, alongside LoCicero and Alice S. Kim. UTA Independent Film Group is handling worldwide distribution sales.
