Aaron Katz took critics and audiences by surprise at SXSW this year with his sleek Hollywood crime thriller Gemini. Emerging indie distributor Neon picked up the film and have released the first trailer, which promises audiences plenty of stylish intrigue in an insidious Hollywood backdrop.
The film follows a hot young actress (Zoe Kravitz) and her dual assistant and close friend (Lola Kirke). When a violent crime surrounds them, it threatens their relationship as more and more truths come to surface. John Cho (Star Trek Beyond), Greta Lee (High Maintenance), Michelle Forbes (TV’s True Blood), Ricki Lake, and Nelson Franklin (TV’s New Girl) also star.
Both Kravitz and Kirke (Mistress America, Mozart in the Jungle) are hot ticket names in the indie world and have reputations for choosing unique character driven projects, especially with Kravitz joining this year’s hit limited HBO series Big Little Lies. Katz just showed the film at Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival where it was nominated for Best Film. Neon will release the film in theaters next spring.
