Gavin O’Connor Will Replace Matt Damon as Director of ‘Father Daughter Time’

Yet another project has been given up by Matt Damon because of his busy schedule; it was just announced that Gavin O’Connor will be directing the film Father Daughter Time: A Tale Of Armed Robbery And Eskimo Kisses.

The story follows a man who goes on a three-state crime spree with his daughter, and then goes on the run. The project has been brewing since 2011 when Warner Bros. bought the script from Matthew Aldrich.

O’Connor had the following to say about the upcoming project:

As a subject I’ve always wanted to explore the father-daughter relationship. I was a single dad for many years. And being a good father — a good example to my daughter — was deeply important to me. But as fathers we’re human, flawed, we make mistakes, and maybe we didn’t have good examples growing up — no strong female role models… How do you live inside that? How do you become a great dad to a daughter when no one taught you how?… And the emotional life is fluid because of all the different stages children go through as they evolve. So the relationship is always changing. But love is the prime mover… As much as I hope I’ve taught her… she’s unknowingly taught me more. That’s the beauty and depth of the relationship. Because if you’re open to the lessons our children become our greatest teachers.

Damon is staying on the project as a producer with Ben Affleck. Matt Damon previously gave up his director’s role (and the lead role) for Manchester By The Sea when he over-scheduled himself a few years ago, having had previous commitments for The Martian.

O’Connor just finished working with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon’s best friend and producing partner, when he directed him in The Accountant for Warner Bros. Previously, he directed Natalie Portman in Jane Got a Gun, as well as episodes of The Americans for FX.

O’Connor is set to direct the series pilot for Fox 21’s Seven Seconds, as well as Paramount’s The Green Hornet. He also expected to direct Atlantic Wall, a WWII thriller starring Bradley Cooper as an American soldier who becomes trapped behind enemy lines on the eve of D-Day.

There is no release date set yet for Father Daughter Time.
