Garrett Hedlund (Country Strong, On The Road, Inside Llewyn Davis) looks like he’ll be stepping out of indie films and back into the studio for Pan, as Deadline reports he has been offered the gritty role of Captain Hook in Warner Bros 3D movie based on the characters of the J.M. Barrie classic Peter Pan.
As scripted by writer Jason Fuchs, Peter will be an orphan who is taken to the magical world of Neverland where he becomes the savior of the natives. Peter and not-yet-Captain Hook start out as friends, with Hook being a crew member on antagonist Blackbeard’s pirate ship. Captain Hook eventually leaves to run a pirate ship of his own and the iconic rivalry with Peter begins. As we’ve previously reported, Hugh Jackman is in talks to play Blackbeard, but has yet to officially sign onto the project. Joe Wright (Atonement, Pride & Prejudice) will direct.
Garrett Hedlund is presently filming the starring role in the Angelina Jolie directed biopic of Louis Zamerini, Unbroken, which was written by his recent directors, the Coen Brothers (Inside Llewyn Davis), and slated to debut December 25.
