Actress Nathalie Emmanuel, Game of Thrones’ Missandei, has been tapped for a role in the upcoming sequel to this year’s YA hit The Maze Runner, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Emmanuel joins her Thrones co-star Aiden Gillen in the much anticipated follow-up, The Scorch Trials.
Dylan O’Brien (TV’s Teen Wolf) returns as hero Thomas and will reunite with the first film’s Will Poulter (TV’s We’re the Millers), Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Love Actually) and Kaya Scodelario (Moon). The plot, adapted from the second novel in the series, revolves around a group of girls, led by Emmanuel, who join forces with Thomas’s group after escaping a separate maze. Emmanuel’s character, Harriet, figures into the third book as well.
Production is set to begin in New Mexico next month. Director Wes Ball returns at the helm, working from T.S. Nowlin’s adaptation of the second volume of James Dashner’s popular series. Fox is eyeing a September 2015 release for the second installment of what they hope will continue to be a popular franchise for the studio.
