With Disney already seeing a huge box office year with Endgame and The Lion King breaking all sorts of records, many are curious about expectations for their next highly anticipated animated film. Frozen 2 is fortunately starting out very strong as, within 24 hours of tickets going on sale, the film already broke the record for highest ticket pre-sales for an animated movie. The record was previously held by this year’s Toy Story 4, which surpassed the numbers for films like The Incredibles 2, Finding Dory and Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse.
With Frozen 2 already breaking records, Disney is expecting the film to gross over $100 million dollar during its opening weekend. Given the hype surrounding Disney’s animated films, it’s also expected that this one will open as strongly as other films like Incredibles 2 ($182 million) and Finding Dory ($135 million). It might even open on par with other huge November release films such as Hunger Games: Catching Fire ($158 million).
Given how this is also Disney’s big animated feature for the fall of 2019, Frozen 2 is expected to stick around at the box office even after its opening weekend. This would mark a continuation of Frozen’s massive success in 2013 remaining very high at the box office despite the release of other films like The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. It’s very likely Frozen 2 could not only stick around, despite December’s upcoming release of Star Wars Rise of Skywalker, but possibly surpass the first film’s 2013 record for the highest grossing animated movie. Regardless, Disney will find a ton of success with Anna’s and Elsa’s next major adventure, and the ticket pre-sales is already a very promising sign.
Frozen 2 is set for release on November 22nd 2019
