Quickly ascending actress Brie Larson (21 Jump Street) may have fascinating new project on the horizon. The actress- currently garnering awards buzz for the upcoming feature Room– already has an impressive array of films currently slated, but now may have one more. Larson appears in talks to join The Glass Castle, a feature adaptation of Jeannette Wallis’ memoir.
A film version of The Glass Castle– which revolves around Wallis’ unconventional upbringing- has been in the works over at Lionsgate for some time now. As of 2013, Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook) had been attached to the leading role and set as one of the films’ producers. However, Lawrence’s packed upcoming schedule (which includes the big budget Passengers, romance The Rosie Project and an untitled comedy with Amy Schumer) has prompted her to drop out. Lawrence’s loss may turn out to be Larson’s gain.
The Glass Castle is set to be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. Cretton previously collaborated with Larson on the acclaimed 2013 indie Short Term 12, a film that earned Larson an Independent Spirit Award nomination and a Gotham Award. Marti Noxon (longtime television writer/producer whose credits include Buffy the Vampire Slayer and UnREAL) wrote the first draft of the screenplay while Cretton and Andrew Lanham have contributed re-writes.
While Lionsgate officially has made no comment over Larson’s involvement to join The Glass Castle, it’s certain that the actress will be plenty in demand in the coming years. Room– which won the coveted People’s Choice Award at the recently concluded Toronto Film Festival is set to open in limited release on October 16th. Larson is also set to appear in the highly anticipated Kong: Skull Island and co-star opposite Steve Carell (Freeheld) in the comedy Battle of the Sexes.
