Fresh off a deal that occurred earlier in March to adapt Judy Blume’s Wifey into a HBO limited series, SMILF creator Frankie Shaw is set to direct a feature film based off of T Kira Madden’s adored memoir Long Live the Tribe of the Fatherless Girls, according to Deadline. ‘T Kira’s story is a lesson in radical self-acceptance, an open-hearted love letter to our pain and our mistakes, and proof that while we are fundamentally shaped by our trauma, it does not have to define us,” confirmed Shaw.
Published by Bloomsbury, film rights to the 2019 memoir were acquired by Bow and Arrow. The project will be produced by Shaw and Jasmine Daghighian of Our Lady Productions. Shannon de Zeeuw of Poor Behavior 2nd AD will serve as an executive producer on the film. Madden herself will be in charge of penning the film’s script, with dialogue inspired from her memoir. Michael Sherman & Matt Perniciaro of Bow and Arrow will be overseeing the financials of Long Live and be tasked with production.
Bow & Arrow were responsible for funding Shaw’s 2016 Sundance short film Too Legit, starring Zoe Kravitz. Shaw’s SMILF, which starred Rosie O’Donnell and Connie Britton, lasted just two seasons until the creator was accused of misconduct on set. Shaw and ABC Studios eventually settled the dispute.
