20th Century Fox has picked up the rights to Boston Strong, a screenplay based on the 2013 bombing at the finish line of America’s oldest marathon and the aftermath of the attack. Safe House helmer Daniel Espinosa is rumored to be in line for directing duties.
Boston Strong is based on the book of the same name by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge. It follows the manhunt to apprehend the two men believed responsible for the attack at the finish line of 2013’s Boston Marathon, and the efforts of the people of Boston to come to terms with the tragedy and the chaos that gripped the region for weeks afterward. The script was adapted on spec by Eric Johnson and Paul Tamasy, the team behind 2010’s The Fighter.
Boston native Casey Affleck was at one time attached to star in and produce the project. Affleck graduated from the same high school as the bombing suspects, so the project has a personal connection. According to sources though, he is no longer involved.
Espinosa, also known for the 2010 action caper Easy Money, recently wrapped the thriller Child 44 for Summit Entertainment.
