Twentieth Century Fox has acquired a Shannon Triplett spec script for Ascension, a large-scale sci-fi disaster film in which a scientist must save the world after Earth loses its gravity. Triplett is known as a producer (Godzilla) and visual effects coordinator (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows). Ascension will mark her debut as a feature film writer.
According to Deadline, Fox is eyeing Matthew Vaughn (X-Men: First Class) to direct and develop the vehicle. He is the man behind this year’s spy action sleeper-hit Kingsman: The Secret Service, which has taken in over 400 million at the global box office since its February release. Vaughn is following up Kingsman with a sequel for Fox next year, which he is on board to write and direct. His own MARV Films produced and co-financed the first Kingsman and will also be backing Kingsman 2. The in-demand action film director is also set to helm I Am Pilgrim for MGM, an adaptation of Terry Hayes’ espionage mega best-seller. Production is scheduled to begin in 2016.
