Fox and Blue Sky Animation Give You the Horns with First ‘Ferdinand’ Trailer

You will “Bullieve”

An animated comedy just isn’t complete without a punny tagline like that. 20th Century Fox and Ice Age sequel factory Blue Sky Animation Studio set out into the ring the first trailer for their newest animated feature, Ferdinand.

Based on the 1936 children’s book by Munro Leaf, Ferdinand is about strong Spanish bull who prefers to literally sit and smell the flowers over participating in flashy bull fights with matadors and red capes. The synopsis for the film version is as follows: “Ferdinand tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart. After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure. Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover”.

Previously, the story was most notably adapted to the animated short form in 1938, two years after its debut, by Walt Disney himself.

2017’s Ferdinand stars WWE Superstar John Cena as the friendly giant alongside a huge cast composing of Gabriel Iglesias, David Tennant, and Kate McKinnon, among others.

Ferdinand is set to charge into theaters on December 15th, the same date set for the hugely anticipated Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
