Paul Feig, the director of Bridesmaids, The Heat, multiple episodes of The Office (the American version), and creator of the cult TV series, Freaks and Geeks, has a musical film in mind. Seriously, according to Variety, the so far untitled project is “based on an original idea by Feig,” and Fox has just landed the pitch. Feig – with his production company, Feigco Entertainment – is set to produce the film with Jessie Henderson. Feig has worked with Fox before, as 2oth Century Fox handled the distribution of The Heat.
Writing duties go to Yana Gorskaya – a film editor who has worked on Spellbound (2002), Celeste & Jesse Forever (2012), and The Perks of Being a Wallflower (also 2012) – and novelist Maia Rossini. Variety describes the duo as “best friends and collaborators since grade school.”
This presumed musical movie will be Feigco Entertainment’s second project after the upcoming comedy spy-thriller known as, well Spy (we previously reported on it while under the title Susan Cooper) starring Jude Law and Bridesmaids/The Heat star Melissa McCarthy.
Not a whole lot is known about Feig’s upcoming musical – including who will direct it, who will act in it, or even what it’s really about – but given the filmmaker’s last two, and upcoming projects it will probably feature women as the central characters – not a bad thing, mind you.
