According to Deadline, Fox is acquiring screen rights to The Woman in the Window, a new novel by A.J. Finn (possibly a pseudonym for a book editor at a major publishing house). This has no relationship to Fritz Lang’s 1944 film noir of the same name starring Edward G. Robinson. The story is a thriller combining elements of The Girl on the Train and Hitchcock’s Rear Window.
Anna Fox used to be in a happy family but is now separated from her husband and daughter. She lives alone and is housebound due to her agoraphobia. She spends her time on the computer, doing online chatting with strangers, watching old movies, and drinking. When new neighbors move in, she spies on the seemingly happy family with longing, only to witness what may be a shocking violent act.
Fox 2000 reportedly also recently acquired an untitled spec centering on a female talk show host, to be produced by Scott Rudin. Mindy Kaling (The Night Before) and Academy Award winner Emma Thompson (Bridget Jones’s Baby) are attached to star.
