Though Gravity director Alfonso Cuaron had at one point been considered for the Harry Potter spinoff trilogy, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (Cuaron directed the third Harry Potter film, Prisoner of Azkaban), it’s now been reported that David Yates, director of the 5th through 8th Harry Potter films will helm the new series. The Fantastic Beasts films will be based on Potter author J. K. Rowling’s book of the same name – a pseudo-textbook describing the various fictional creatures inhabiting the Potter-verse. Rowling herself has contributed to the films’ scripts.
