In what amounts to a trailer for a trailer, Universal has released – by way of Beyoncé – their first teaser for the upcoming movie Fifty Shades of Grey, in advance of the first full-length trailer which is set to hit the interwebs this Thursday.
The video was actually first promoted on Beyoncé’s Instagram account over the weekend. In this teasing teaser we get some old fashioned heavy breathing along with a remixed version of the pop singer’s Crazy In Love, played over a handful of short and unsatisfying clips from the movie, none of which feature stars Jamie Dornan (The Fall) or Dakota Johnson (Need for Speed). Lest you think we’re any more of a tease than Universal, you can check it out for yourself below.
The movie is of course based on the massively popular novel by E.L. James, which is the first of a trilogy of books that Universal no doubt hopes to turn into a lucrative franchise. Sam Taylor-Johnson directs an adaptation from Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks). Universal will release the movie, fittingly, on Valentine’s Day next year.
