Disney has been able to hit another high with the box office that they haven’t seen for some time. The release of Avatar: Fire And Ash will help to push Disney past the point of a cumulative $6 billion mark at the box office.
Disney was able to dominate their hold on theater screens across several of the holiday frames over 2025, specifically Memorial Day weekend, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. The live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch was the second film of 25 to hit $1 billion at the box office, taking the top spot during the Memorial Day frame. Thanksgiving was occupied by Zootopia 2, which sits at a worldwide total just shy of $1.3 billion, while Christmas is being dominated by Avatar: Fire And Ash, the latest installment in James Cameron’s uber successful sci-fi franchise.
Reports indicate that Disney has been able to hit this mark before, but it’s been some time since they could. The last year was 2019, with hits like The Lion King and Avengers: Endgame, but they haven’t been able to make the mark since then.
The Hollywood Reporter noted that a sizable chunk of the gross was from international markets. Roughly $3.6 billion is coming from overseas markets, while around $2.3 billion comes from the US itself.
