The first official trailer of the grand finale of the Downton Abbey film series has arrived. The third and final film installment, adapted from Julian Fellowes’ hit period television series, is titled Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.
The final feature will center around the Crawley family as well as members of their staff as they head into the 1930s. From the trailer, the film will seemingly focus on Mary as she finds herself in the middle of a public scandal, all the while the family faces financial turmoil. This combination of issues leaves the family on the edge of being societal outcasts. According to Deadline, “The Crawleys must embrace change as the staff prepares for a new chapter with the next generation leading Downton Abbey into the future.”
The familiar ensemble makes a return for this final, which includes Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Paul Copley, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Joanne Froggatt, Paul Giamatti, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol, Douglas Reith, Dominic West, and Penelope Wilton. There are some new additions to the cast as well, those being Simon Russell Beale, Arty Froushan, Alessandro Nivola, and Joely Richardson. Simon Curtis returned to direct the final installment with a script from Fellowes, who also produced alongside Gareth Neame, Liz Trugbridge, and Nigel Marchant as an executive producer.
