Focus Features has bagged North American distribution rights – as well as rights to few overseas territories – for the upcoming comedy Tully. The film comes from director Jason Reitman and stars Oscar winner Charlize Theron and was penned by Oscar winning scribe Diablo Cody. All three previously collaborated on the well-received 2011 comedy Young Adult; Reitman and Cody also joined forces for the 2007 hit comedy Juno.
Their latest features focuses on Marlo (Theron), a mother of three – including a newborn – who finds herself gifted with a new nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis, The Martian) from her brother (Mark Duplass). At first caught off guard from what she perceives as excess, Marlo starts to forge a thoughtful bond with the nanny. Ron Livingston rounds out the ensemble.
Reitman’s last film was Men, Women and Children (2014). He earned Oscar nominations for directing both Juno and Up in the Air, the latter of which also earned him an Oscar nod for co-writing the screenplay. Cody previously penned the script for the Meryl Streep-headlined Ricki and the Flesh, directed by the late Jonathan Demme. Theron can currently be seen in the blockbuster The Fate of the Furious; later this year she stars in Atomic Blonde, also distributed by Focus.
Tully will open in theaters on April 20, 2018.
