Florence Pugh has become an actress with much experience. Her films include Oppenheimer, Dune: Part Two, Midsommar and the upcoming Thunderbolts from Marvel. In the script, Pugh’s character jumps from the second-tallest building in the world. Pugh insisted she perform the stunt herself, but was met with a lot of pushback due to the dangerous nature. However, Pugh persisted.
The Hollywood Reporter gathered Pugh’s interview with Fandango, where she discussed the entire process of the stunt. Pugh was ready for the stunt from the beginning but she said “…as we got closer and closer to shooting, they were like, ‘Yeah, we don’t think it’s gonna happen, it’s just gonna be a crazy insurance ordeal, and obviously we’re not going to throw FP off the second-tallest building in the world.” The building in question is the Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, towering at a whopping 2,722 feet tall.
After she received multiple no’s Pugh contacted the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige. She begged him to perform the stunt herself. She emailed Feige a lot explaining how the stunt would bring a lot of buzz and would be great for the press tour. Eventually, Feige and the studio gave in to Pugh’s wishes and allowed her to jump off the building. Although Pugh is not necessarily scared of heights she mentally prepared for the stunt and due to the mental and physicality of the day, she fell asleep for hours afterwards.
Florence Pugh is joined by Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, Sebastian Stan, Julia-Louis-Dreyfus and others in the new movie. Thunderbolts will be in theaters May 2.
