‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 3’ Update From Franchise Director

Warning: Possible spoilers for Five Nights at Freddy’s 2

Emma Tammi, director of the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, gave a cautious update on a threequel. Since the first film was released, the adaptations of Scott Cawthon’s horror video game franchises have been a hit with fans. The first film was Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film of all time, with the sequel entering the top 10  list for the studio.

The films follow Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt. Mike’s younger brother went missing as a child, and in adulthood, he discovers a group of animatronics that are possessed by the spirits of missing murdered children.  Helping him against the animatronics are his younger sister Abby, played by Piper Rubio, and Vanessa, played by Elizabeth Lail, who is also the daughter of William Afton, the owner of the famous pizzeria.

In an interview with ScreenRant, Tammi answered questions regarding the second film’s cliffhanger ending and plans for a third installment. She assured that there are discussions happening for a threequel. “With the second now about to come out onto home video, which is super exciting, especially for the holidays, we’re in talks, and I’m sure we’ll know more in the new year, but it’s still all a conversation at this point,” the director said.

There was already some speculation about a third installment due to Matthew Lillard sharing that his contract was extended to three films. But it makes sense why Tammi was hesitant to share news regarding the third installment due to the sequel being more expensive to make and coming up about $80 million short at the box office compared to the first installment.
