Five Nights at Freddy’s is getting a sequel according to Comicbook. The movie’s star Josh Hutcherson, most well known for his role as Peeta Mellark in The Hunger Games told Variety that the script is in the works: “I know they’re in the process right now of nailing down the story, and they want to get going as soon as possible,” he stated, “obviously, the fans are amazing and die hard. For me to be a part of it was so cool and phenomenal. We hoped it would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did. I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”
The film is based on the hit game of the same name which was made popular in the 2010s by YouTubers like Markiplier and MatPat, the latter of which had a cameo in the film adaptation. So it was not surprising when the movie did well at the box office with fans of the game and Hutcherson himself going to the theaters.
Despite the film’s box office success, critics did not exactly love the film as much as fans. The critic’s score of the film on Rotten Tomatoes was 32% while the audience rated it at 87%. Personally, I would say it was a good but not great film. It will be interesting to see what the sequel does to improve upon the story established in the first film and how audiences and critics respond to it.
There is currently no expected release date for the sequel.
