Deadpool is no stranger to the general public. He’s dominated pop culture and demanded attention since the smashing success of his first big studio film, Deadpool. The entirety of the film’s marketing revolved around the R rating, effectively separating itself from other superhero blockbusters. A risky move to be sure but it paid off, with Forbes creating a list of all the records broken by the debut film in 2016. Deadpool had the biggest R-rated opening weekend, biggest 20th Century Fox debut, biggest opening for a R-rated superhero movie, biggest February opening weekend and was the biggest opening for its star and director. Not only was the movie a breath of fresh air for those who had grown tired of more family oriented superheroes, but it was also a funny and surprisingly relevant action comedy that held its own against the other superhero giants.
But before the movie was even released, a young boy by the name of Matthew created a petition to re-cut the movie to bring it down to a PG-13 rating so his mom would allow him to watch it. The argument became heavily contested with outlets such as Greek Tyrant stating “There’s no such thing as a PG-13 Deadpool!”
Well it looks like Matthew’s wish is coming true as the first trailer for Once Upon A Deadpool, a recut version of Deadpool 2 brought down to a PG-13 rating, was just dropped. The trailer opens with Deadpool’s narration and cuts to him sitting next to Fred Savage in his bed, recreating the famous The Princess Bride scene. Not only is the image of a grown Fred Savage being held to appeal to families hilarious but as Deadpool states “Nobody does childlike innocence like you Fred, nobody.” The movie is set to release on December 12 and undoubtedly make a splash at the box office.
