IFC Films has released the first trailer for Good Boy. The film is a horror film from a dog’s perspective, following its dog protagonist Indy (played by a dog actor of the same name), as he witnesses strange occurrences in his owner’s home. The film’s synopsis, taken from the description of the first trailer, is as follows:
A loyal dog moves to a rural family home with his owner, Todd, only to discover supernatural forces lurking in the shadows. As dark entities threaten his human companion, the brave pup must fight to protect the one he loves most.
The film received positive reviews when it premiered at SXSW 2025. The film currently has a Certified Fresh score of 95% on the review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes. The first trailer features various review quotes, with the first, from Indiewire, calling the film “One of the Best horror films so far this year”, with that review being used again at the end of the trailer, praising the film’s leading dog actor, calling him “One of the most emotive actors of his generation – regardless of species.” Another, from Collider, describes the film as “genuinely unnerving”. Other quotes call the film “refreshing and entertaining” (The Austin Chronicle) and “spooky, strange, and surprisingly heartfelt” (Screen Zealots).
Good Boy is the feature directorial debut of Ben Leonberg, and is co-written by Leonberg and Alex Cannon. It will be released by IFC Films on October 3rd. The trailer can be viewed below:
